Mumbai: Doctors of Lilavati Institution also Research Centre (LHRC) in their endeavour towards the upliftment of the girl child, took another step forth in their initiative by organising ‘Save & Empower the Girl Child’ occurrence on February 5, at Taj Lands End, Bandra (W) at their yearly event.

The evening started with a panel discussion on ‘Save & Empower the Girl Child’ moderated by Dr. Kiran Coelho, Chairman of the organising committee along with other panellists – Dr. Indu Shahani, Nagesh Kukunoor, Paraclete Mrunalini Deshmukh, Gul Panag, Dr. Rupa Shah, Dr. Hrishikesh Pai, Shaina N.C., and Ceylan Ozen Erisen, Counsel General of Turkey in Mumbai.

Dr. Indu Shahani, former Sheriff of Mumbai and Principal concerning HR School insisted on the importance of women pursuing their career after completing their education. “Even though women excel in education and finish their courses, those who make it to the roof are very few. We need to concentrate on this outlook now,” she said.

Nagesh Kukunoor who wrote, produced, acted and directed immensely successful films like Hyderabad Blues, Iqbal, Dor also Laxmi narrated, what inspired him to make the internationally acclaimed film Laxmi, which deals with child trafficking.

Ceylan Ozen Erisen, Counsel General of Turkey in Mumbai explained how empowerment of women is done in her country and how India could emulate it.
